Dhaka-17 constituency MP candidate Ashraful Hossain Alom alias Hero Alom has been attacked at a polling centre at Banani in the capital.

The incident took place around 3:10 pm on Monday (July 17). Later, he was taken to Better Life Hospital at Rampura.

In an immediate reaction, Hero Alom said, “I have visited various polling stations throughout the day. Some people carried attack on me at Banani Bidyaniketan school center after 3 pm.”

A video of the incident went viral on social media. It was seen in the video, a group of people chased Hero Alom and started him beating. At that time, Hero Alom was trying to run away.

Earlier, Hero Alom had alleged that his agents were not allowed to enter the polling station. The returning officer Monir Hossain said in this regard that Hero Alom did not send his agents to the centers after filling the proper forms. That is why the agents were not allowed to enter the center.

The balloting in Dhaka-17 by-polls began at 8:00am and it continued till 4:00pm without any break.

The constituency, which covers Gulshan, Banani, Cantonment, and some areas of Bhashantek and slums, including Karail and Sattala slums, at Mohakhali, fell vacant on the death of AL lawmaker Akbar Hossain Pathan, on May 15.
