Prottoy Heron among 3 YouTubers arrested over gambling ads


The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three YouTubers on charges of promoting online gambling advertisements in various videos on the platform.

They were arrested from several places around the capital on Thursday.

A Digital Security Act (DSA) case was filed against them at Ramna police station.

The arrestees are Prottoy Heron of YouTube channel “The Ajaira LTD”, Abdul Hamid and Raihan of YouTube channel “Hamid Mals”.

According to the police, the arrestees were promoting international gambling sites in their videos. They also aired advertisements on foreign gambling platforms through agents. 

DB officials said that the YouTubers used to advertise the gambling sites in between videos on their YouTube channel. They received Tk1,10,000 per episode for the advertisements of foreign gambling sites.

Abdul Hamid worked as an agent with an Indian agency, DB officials noted. 

In this regard, Tariq Bin Rashid, deputy commissioner of the DB cybercrime unit, said: “The Ajaira LTD has an online series called ‘Bodmaish Polapain'. In every episode of season four of that series, they promoted online gambling sites through advertisements.”

“During primary interrogation, we learned that the online gamblers were operating from outside Bangladesh. Through various Indian agents, they try to give these advertisements to popular YouTubers or online activists,” he added.
